Egg Custard Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 egg yolks
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    2 2/3 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked
    3 egg whites
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    6 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation
    Beat egg yolks, stir in 1/2 cup sugar, salt and nutmeg; add milk. Pour into pie shell and bake at 450\u00b0 for 15 minutes. Reduce to 300\u00b0 and bake about 45 minutes more or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Top with meringue and bake until brown.
