Savory Baked Spaghetti - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 Tbsp. bacon grease or vegetable oil
    2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
    1 clove garlic (optional)
    1/2 lb. ground chuck
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1 (1 lb. 13 oz.) can tomatoes (3 1/2 c.)
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 c. water
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. spaghetti (uncooked)
    1/4 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated (1 c.)
Preparation
    Cook onions and garlic in bacon grease or oil in skillet for 5 minutes.
    Add chuck; cook, stirring occasionally, until meat loses its red color.
    Stir in salt, pepper and tomatoes.
    Simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
    Discard garlic.
    Add chili powder and water.
    Break half of the uncooked spaghetti into greased 2-quart casserole dish.
    Pour on half of sauce; sprinkle with half of cheese.
    Repeat layers.
    Bake, uncovered, for 35 minutes at 325\u00b0. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer or until brown.
    Yield:
    6 servings.
