Fried Okra - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sliced okra
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. black pepper
    1 c. corn meal
    1 c. flour
    1/2 c. shortening (for frying, unless for deep frying)
Preparation
    Select young tender pods of okra.
    Wash, cut off ends and slice crosswise.
    Mix salt, pepper, meal and flour in a bag or bowl.
    Add okra and shake or stir until okra is covered with dry mixture.
    Have the shortening hot in a skillet.
    Add the okra. Cook until tender and browned, stirring occasionally.
