Chicken Gumbo - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (2 to 2 1/2 lb.) fryer
    1 c. flour
    1 lb. margarine
    1 c. onions
    5 cloves garlic
    1 bay leaf
    1/2 lb. smoked sausage, cut in small pieces
    3 qt. water
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Brown flour in margarine.
    Add onions, smoked sausage and garlic.
    Saute until onions soften.
    Add chicken.
    Cover and let steam, but stir often.
    Add water, bay leaf, salt and pepper.
    Let cook until chicken is done.
    Turn off burner and add one pinch file.
