Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar per qt.
    1/2 tsp. salt per qt.
    vinegar
    beets
Preparation
    Prepare beets.
    Wash; leave roots and 1 inch of stem on.
    Cook until done, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
    Remove skins and cover with vinegar;, add sugar and salt.
    Let heat thoroughly; put in jars.
