Lentils And Rice - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. uncooked lentils
    4 c. water
    1 large onion, chopped
    1/4 c. olive or vegetable oil
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1/8 tsp. cumin (optional)
    1/8 tsp. garlic powder (optional)
    salt to taste
    1/2 c. uncooked rice
Preparation
    Rinse lentils and place in a pan with water.
    Boil for 20 minutes on medium fire.
    Saute chopped (or julienned) onion in oil until light brown.
    Add onion and residue, seasonings and rice to the lentils.
    Cover and cook for 20 minutes.
    Stir occasionally. Serve on a platter; this thickens as it cools.
