Mama'S Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened (1 stick)
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
2 c. granulated sugar
5 eggs, separated
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flaked coconut
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation

In large mixer bowl, cream the butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks.
Beat until light and fluffy.
Mix together flour and baking soda.
Add flour to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk; mix until smooth.
Stir in vanilla, coconut and nuts. Whip egg whites until stiff.
Fold into the cake batter.
Blend well.
Grease and flour 3 round 9-inch cake pans.
Turn batter into pans.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake tests done.
