Ingredients

1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1 Tbsp. softened margarine
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Place buttermilk and baking soda in heavy 4 quart saucepan. Stir thoroughly.
Let stand five minutes.
Stir again.
Add sugar, syrup and butter.
Blend thoroughly.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly.
Soda will cause mixture to look foamy.
Mixture will become brownish in color during the cooking process.
Cook to softball stage.
Remove from heat and add nuts and vanilla.
DO NOT STIR.
Cool to lukewarm.
Beat to creamy consistency and pour into buttered pan.
