Ingredients

5 small onions, finely sliced crosswise
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
3 (10 1/2 oz.) cans beef consomme
2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans water
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. salt or 1 beef bouillon cube
1/8 tsp. pepper
8 slices French bread, cut 1-inch thick
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1/3 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation

Separate onions into rings and cook in melted butter until glossy.
Add consomme, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt or cube and pepper.
Bring to boil.
Cover tightly and cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
