Layered Green Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 small head shredded lettuce
    1 onion, in thin rings
    1 medium green pepper, chopped
    1 can water chestnuts, sliced
    1 (10 oz.) carton green peas, thawed and spread on paper towels to dry the excess moisture (uncooked)
    1 1/2 c. Hellmann's mayonnaise
    1 small can Parmesan cheese
    2 Tbsp. sugar, sprinkled over
Preparation
    Use a large glass salad bowl and layer from the bottom up the ingredients.
    Let stand, covered, in refrigerator overnight.
    Do not mix!
    Each person is supposed to serve by reaching through all layers to get a little of each.
