Ingredients

1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1 c. rather hot water
2 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
Preparation

Put yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water and mix.
Add sugar, salt, shortening and hot water.
Stir in the flour, one cup at a time, and mix after each cup.
After all the flour is added, let dough set for 15 minutes, then stir again and let set again for 15 minutes.
Do this 4 times (takes 1 hour).
Let dough set, covered, until it doubles.
Form into 1 loaf and put on floured baking sheet.
Brush the top with cold water and make 5 slashes diagonally in top of loaf with sharp knife.
Let loaf rise for 30 minutes and bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
