Orange Candy Slice Cake And Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 sticks butter or margarine
    2 c. sugar
    4 eggs
    1 1/2 c. buttermilk, divided
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    4 c. flour
    1 lb. dates, sliced
    1 lb. orange jelly candy, sliced and halved
    2 c. mixed nuts, chopped
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar, add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
    Add 1 cup buttermilk, beat well, add soda to other 1/2 cup buttermilk and add to mixture.
    Combine dry ingredients; add orange slice halves, add dates and nuts; blend. Line a tube pan with well-greased brown paper.
    Bake at 275\u00b0 for 2 1/2 hours.
