4-Star Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    3 egg whites
    1/2 c. cocoa
    1/3 c. cold water
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 c. cold water
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 1/3 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Cream butter or shortening, sugar and salt.
    Blend 1/2 cup cocoa into 1/3 cup water and add to first mixture.
    Add alternately to the mixture the sifted flour, cold water and vanilla.
    Fold in 3 egg whites, beaten stiff with 3/4 cup sugar added.
    Add to cake mixture gradually.
    Add last the soda, mixed in 1 tablespoon boiling water.
    Bake in loaf or layer pans in a 350\u00b0 oven.
