Strawberry Meringue Cake - cooking recipe

1 (2 layer size) yellow cake mix
1 c. orange juice
1/3 c. water
4 egg yolks
grated orange peel
4 egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. sugar
1 qt. fresh strawberries or an equal amount of fresh peaches, sliced
2 c. whipping cream
1/4 c. sugar
Preparation

Combine cake mix,* orange juice, water, egg yolks and grated orange peel; beat 4 minutes on medium speed of electric mixer. Pour into two greased and wax paper lined 9 x 1 1/2-inch round cake pans.
Beat egg whites with cream of tartar to soft peaks; gradually add the 1 cup sugar, beating to stiff peaks.
Gently spread meringue evenly over batter.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes; cool completely.
