Lentil And Barley Stew - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 to 4 Tbsp. olive oil
3/4 c. chopped celery
3/4 c. chopped onion
2 tsp. cumin seed
1 tsp. minced garlic
6 c. water
3/4 c. dry lentils
3 carrots, cut into coins
1 qt. canned tomatoes or spaghetti sauce
1/2 to 3/4 c. barley
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. rosemary or basil (2 tsp. dry or 1/4 c. fresh)
Preparation

Saute in oil, celery, onion, cumin and garlic.
Add water and lentils; cook 20 minutes.
Add tomatoes, barley, salt, pepper and herbs.
Simmer 30 minutes.
Add carrots and simmer another 20 to 30 minutes.
