Chow Mein - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. pork, diced
    1 lb. beef, diced
    2 Tbsp. fat
    1/3 c. soy sauce
    1 c. water
    1 large bunch celery (in 1/2-inch slices)
    1 small onion, chopped
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/4 c. water
    2 (5 to 6 oz.) cans water chestnuts, drained and sliced
    1 (No. 2) can (2 1/2 c.) bean sprouts, drained
    1 (3 oz.) can broiled sliced mushrooms
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Brown meats in hot fat. Add soy sauce and 1 cup water. Simmer 2 minutes. Add celery and onions. Simmer 1 1/2 hours. Blend cornstarch and water. Stir into meat mixture. Add chestnuts, bean sprouts and mushrooms. Heat through. Season. Serve over rice or chow-mein noodles. Makes 8 servings.
