Golden Baked Onion Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium onions, sliced thin
    12 oz. Swiss cheese, grated
1 can cream of chicken soup
    1/2 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. pepper
1 loaf French bread, sliced in about 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick slices
    2 sticks margarine
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Melt 1 stick margarine in a large pot. Add all sliced onions. Saute until onions are soft and transparent. Do not overcook. Using a slotted spoon, transfer onions to a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking dish (I use Pyrex).
Mix together the soup, milk and pepper until smooth. Pour over the onions. Top with grated cheese.
    Melt remaining stick of margarine.
Dip one side of sliced bread in margarine.
Put on top of casserole, buttered side up.
Continue with remaining bread slices, covering casserole completely and overlapping bread slices.
    Bake,
uncovered, for 30 to 40 minutes or until bread is golden brown. Serve hot.
    Serves 6 to 8.
