Sopaipillas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1/2 c. scalded milk
    oil for deep frying
Preparation
    Combine first 4 ingredients in bowl, mix well.
    Cut in shortening until crumbly.
    Make well in center.
    Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
    Add to scalded milk after cooled in bowl. Pour into dry ingredients.
    Mix well.
    Knead 15 to 20 times.
    Let stand for 10 minutes.
    Roll 1/4-inch thick on floured surface; cut into squares or triangles.
    Deep fry at 420\u00b0 until puffed and golden brown.
    Yields 24 servings.
