Vegetarian Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. vegetable broth
    2 c. dried split peas, rinsed
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 c. carrots, chopped
    2 celery ribs, chopped
    2 garlic cloves, minced
    1/2 tsp. dried marjoram
    1/2 tsp. dried basil
    1/4 tsp. cumin
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    5 Tbsp. shredded carrots
Preparation
    In large saucepan, combine first nine ingredients; bring to boil.
    Reduce heat; cover, and simmer for one hour or until peas are tender, stirring occasionally.
    Add salt and pepper.
    Simmer 10 minutes longer.
    In small batches, puree soup in blender. Return to pan and heat for 5 minutes.
    Garnish with shredded carrots.
