French Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dry yeast
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 Tbsp. melted shortening
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    4 c. flour
    1 1/2 c. water
Preparation
    Sprinkle yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. In large bowl, dissolve sugar and salt in 1 cup warm water.
    Add shortening and yeast. Add flour and mix well with wooden spoon.
    Work dough with spoon at 10 minute intervals five times.
    Turn dough on floured board into 2 balls.
    Let rest for 10 minutes.
    Roll each ball into 12 x 9-inches, then roll as for jelly roll.
    Place on greased baking sheet and score 6 times.
    Let rise for 1 1/2 hours (covered). Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 400\u00b0.
