Ingredients

1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
6 large eggs (use 3 whites for filling)
1 c. milk
3 c. cake flour
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation

Sift together all dry ingredients.
Set aside.
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and beat well.
Alternately add milk and flour, creaming after each addition.
Add vanilla and beat with mixer until very creamy.
Grease 3 cake pans with Crisco and dust with self-rising flour.
Divide cake batter evenly among the prepared pans.
Bake for 20 to 30 minutes at 325\u00b0 to 350\u00b0. Cool completely before icing.
If desired, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of coconut milk over each layer before icing.
