Southern Corn Bread - cooking recipe

1/4 c. shortening
2 c. white corn meal
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 egg
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Melt shortening in baking pan.
Sift dry ingredients; combine egg, buttermilk and stir into dry ingredients along with melted shortening.
Pour batter into hot pan.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 450\u00b0 or until browned.
