Apple Crisp - cooking recipe

6 medium-sized cooking apples (about 2 lb.)
1 c. sugar, divided
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. lemon juice
3/4 c. flour
1/8 tsp. salt
6 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
1/4 c. chopped walnuts (optional)
whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Lightly butter 1 1/2-quart shallow baking dish; set aside.
Pare, quarter, core and thinly slice apples.
You should have 6 cups.
In large mixing bowl, place apples, 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice; toss lightly to mix.
Place in prepared baking dish; set aside.
