Custard - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. milk
    3 eggs
    3/4 c. sugar (scant)
    1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    In heavy saucepan, scald 3 cups milk (do not boil).
    In a bowl, beat\ttogether
    the
    eggs, sugar and salt.
    Beat well, then stir in the
    cup
    of cold milk.
    Add some of the hot milk to the mixture.
    Mix
    well,
    then gradually add to the rest of the hot milk.
    Cook
    over
    just medium heat.
    Stir constantly until mixture coats
    the back of the spoon (do not overcook or let boil).
    Strain.
    Add
    1
    teaspoon
    of
    vanilla.
    Best
    if allowed to ripen in refrigerator or until next day.
