Ingredients

2 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. jam (blackberry or strawberry)
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. shredded coconut
1 c. dates, chopped
1 large apple, grated
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs one at a time.
Add soda to milk.
Mix spices with flour.
Add flour alternately with milk, then add jam, dates, nuts, coconut and apple.
Mix well.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 25 minutes.
Yields 3 layers.
