Mom Eldridge'S Apple Crisp(Kelley Jo'S Great Great Grandmother) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. peeled and sliced apples
    1/4 c. water
    3/4 c. all-purpose flour
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter, softened
Preparation
    Spread apples evenly in a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish; pour water over top.
    Combine flour, sugar, salt and cinnamon; stir lightly to mix and then cut butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    Sprinkle evenly over apples.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
    Top with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
