Cherry Winks - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    3 oz. pkg. cream cheese
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. almond extract
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. soda
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 1/4 c. chopped pecans
    36 maraschino cherries, halved
Preparation
    Cream shortening and cream cheese, gradually adding sugar. Beat well until light and fluffy. Add egg and almond extract, beating well. Combine flour, soda and salt; add to cream cheese mixture and beat well. Chill about 1 hour. Shape into 1-inch balls and roll in pecans. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; press 1/2 cherry into center of each cookie. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
