Kringla - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. sugar (the 1/4 c. can be brown sugar)
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
    3 1/2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Cream shortening; add sugar gradually.
    Add egg and beat. Sift flour and dry ingredients together.
    Add alternately with the buttermilk.
    Chill for 2 hours or longer.
    Form figure eights and bake in 450\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
