Vidalia Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 large Vidalia onions
    1 c. sugar
    oil for deep frying
    2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
    1 c. self-rising flour
    ice water
    2/3 c. water
    2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Slice onions 1/8 inch thick.
    Sprinkle with sugar and add ice water to cover.
    Soak for 1 hour.
    Make batter of flour, salt, water, vegetable oil and beaten egg whites.
    Drain onion rings and dip into batter.
    Fry at 375\u00b0 until brown.
