Granny'S Date Nut Roll - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    3 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    2 Tbsp. margarine
    1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
    1 c. chopped pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    In saucepan, stir sugar, milk, syrup, margarine and dates. Cook to soft ball stage (240\u00b0).
    Add pecans and vanilla.
    Beat until mixture becomes firm.
    Pour onto damp clean towel and shape into 1 1/2-inches thick roll.
    Refrigerate until firm.
    Slice. This roll keeps for a long time in a tightly covered container.
