Ingredients

1/4 c. butter or margarine
4 c. thinly sliced onions
4 (10 3/4 oz.) cans condensed beef bouillon (undiluted)
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
4 slices French bread (3/4-inch thick)
4 slices cheese or grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation

Heat butter in large skillet.
Add onions; saute, stirring, until golden, about 8 minutes.
Combine onions, bouillon, bay leaf, garlic and thyme.
Bring to boil; simmer, covered, for 30 minutes.
