Fern'S No Trouble Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    pickling salt
    cucumbers
    alum
    7 or 8 c. sugar
    3 c. white vinegar
    4 c. water
Preparation
    Slice medium size cucumbers lengthwise; pack cold in quart jars.
    Add 1 tsp. salt and pinch of alum in each jar.
    Dissolve sugar in vinegar and water; boil rapidly.
    Pour over cucumbers in jars and seal.
    Process in boiling water bath for about 10 minutes, or until they begin to change color.
