Five Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    3/4 c. salt (noniodized)
    2 1/4 oz. alum
    3 lb. sugar
    1 gal. glass jar
    1 box pickling spice
    boiling water
    vinegar
Preparation
    First Day:
    Dissolve salt in half gallon boiling water.
    Pour over cucumbers.
    If this does not fill jar, finish filling with boiling water.
    Drain after 24 hours.
