Jam Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. milk or buttermilk
    1 c. white sugar
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 jar Paramount mincemeat with rum and brandy
    1 1/2 c. jam
    1 tsp. soda
    4 whole eggs, separate the whites from the yellow
    1 1/2 c. nuts
    1/2 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. candied cherries
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and egg yellows together.
    Add flour, spices and milk.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Bake at 300\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours.
