Crisp Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 gal. sliced cucumbers
1 c. water
1 Tbsp. mustard seed
8 medium sized onions
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 c. salt
2 1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 tsp. whole cloves
Preparation

Slice cucumbers paper thin, leaving peel on.
Slice onions into thin rings.
Dissolve salt in water and pour over vegetables; put about 2 quarts crushed ice on top.
It is the ice and salt that gives an almost brittle, crisp pickle.
Let stand 3 hours, weighted with a plate; drain.
