Sour Beef And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. or so shine beef or chuck, fat cut out
    1 onion, chopped
    1 tsp. salt
    1 bay leaf
    10 crushed gingersnap cookies
    5 whole allspice
    2 slices cloves
    1/2 c. vinegar
    5 heaping Tbsp. brown sugar
    pepper to taste
Preparation
    Boil beef in 5 cups water for 1 1/2 hours or until beef is tender, having added the onion, salt, bay leaf, allspice and cloves.
    Cool 2 cups of hot juice.
    Add gingersnaps; mix.
    Stir in brown sugar.
    Simmer 45 minutes or more.
