Southern Date Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 lb. walnuts, chopped
3 (8 oz.) boxes chopped dates
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
6 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped

Preparation

Combine nuts and dates; mix well.
Add flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Continue to mix well.
Use your hands to mix evenly.
Beat eggs in a bowl.
Add vanilla and chopped cherries. Mix with hands to work the batter thoroughly.
The mixture will seem a little dry.
Grease and flour a tube pan generously.
Line the bottom with wax paper.
Pack mixture into the tube pan and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 300\u00b0.
