Pfeffernuesse - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 cup molasses
    1/4 cup butter
    2 cups flour
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1/4 tsp ground cardamom
    1/4 tsp ground allspice
    1/8 tsp pepper
    1 beaten egg
Preparation
    Mix the butter and molasses in a saucepan and melt over low heat.
    Cool to room temperature.
    Stir together all dry ingredients in a large bowl; set aside.
    Stir the egg into the molasses mixture and gradually stir in the flour mixture.
    Cover and chill one hour or until dough is easy to handle.
    Divide dough into 12 portions. On a lightly floured surface roll each piece into a 10-inch rope. Cut the ropes into 1/2-inch pieces.
    Place the pieces 1/2-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
    Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are firm and bottoms are lightly browned.
    Cool on paper towels.
