New England Sponge Cake(This Was My Mother'S Recipe) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. orange or lemon juice
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Beat eggs vigorously.
Add sugar and continue to beat rapidly. Add boiling water, beating constantly, the more the better.
Add flavoring (vanilla may be used).
Sift flour, salt and baking powder.
Add to first mixture and continue to beat rapidly.
Pour into well-greased pan and bake in 350\u00b0 oven about 35 to 40 minutes. Can be baked in tube pan or 13 x 9-inch if you want to use it for shortcake.
