Ingredients

1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. broken pecans
2 c. candied cherries, cut in half
2 c. dates, cut in small pieces
Preparation

Combine shortening, sugar and eggs and mix well.
Stir in buttermilk.
Combine flour, soda and salt and stir in.
Stir in pecans, cherries and dates.
Chill at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Place a pecan half on each cookie. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly with finger.
Makes 8 dozen.
