Ingredients

2 c. rolled oats
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/4 c. hot water
1/2 c. shortening, melted and cooled
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Combine oats, sugars, salt and flour.
Combine soda and water. Stir in oats mixture along with shortening and vanilla.
Make into walnut-size balls.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Allow to stand 2 minutes before removing from pans to wire rack.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
