Black Bottom Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (9-inch) pie crust (baked or crumb)
    1 Tbsp. gelatin in 1/4 c. cold water
    2 c. rich milk (half and half)
    4 eggs, separated
    1/2 c. sugar
    4 tsp. cornstarch
    1 1/2 oz. melted unsweetened chocolate
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. rum or rum flavoring
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 c. heavy whipping cream
    2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
Preparation
    Soak gelatin in cold water.
    Scald milk.
    Combine sugar and cornstarch.
    Beat egg
    yolks
    until
    light.
    Stir
    scalded milk into egg yolks.
    Using a whisk, slowly add sugar mixture. Cook in double boiler,
    stirring
    until
    mixture heavily coats spoon, approximately 20 minutes.
    Remove 1 cup custard and add melted chocolate.
    Add vanilla.
    Pour into pie crust.
