Ham Bone Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. dried beans (navy or white)
    6 c. water
    1 c. chopped onion
    ham bone
    1/2 garlic clove, diced
    2 c. chopped celery
    1 c. diced carrot
    2 whole cloves
    2 bay leaves
    1 tsp. thyme
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    4 c. stock
    dash of pepper
    3 or 4 tsp. sherry
    ham cubes (amount is left up to the desire of the cook)
Preparation
    Soak and cook beans according to instructions on package. Saute onion, ham and garlic.
    Combine all ingredients, except the sherry, into a 6-quart pot.
    Simmer 4 hours.
    Add sherry just before serving.
    Serves 8 to 10 generous servings.
