Mrs. Bratcher'S Cream Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 cups sugar
    1/8 tsp. salt
    1 cup half and half
    1/8 tsp. baking soda
Preparation
    In a heavy deep pan mix sugar and salt.
    In a small bowl mix the half and half and baking soda.
    Add this to the sugar and salt.
    Blend well.
    Add 1/2 cup boiling water.
    Turn the heat on medium and begin stirring.
    Stir constantly until it begins to boil.
    You do not stir any more.
    Let boil until it reaches hard crack on a candy thermometer, or when dropped in a cup of cold water, it becomes a piece that when tapped on the cup will make an audible sound.
    (On my stove this is always 30 minutes.)
