Peanut Brittle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. light corn syrup
    2 c. raw Spanish peanuts
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Heat and stir sugar, syrup and 1 cup water in a heavy 3-quart saucepan until sugar dissolves.
    Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage (234\u00b0).
    Add nuts and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
    Cook to hard crack stage (305\u00b0), stirring often.
    Remove from heat.
    Quickly stir in butter and soda.
    Pour at once onto 2 well-buttered 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch pans, spreading with spatula.
    If desired, cool slightly and pull with forks to stretch.
    Break up when cold.
    Makes 1 1/2 pounds.
