"Grandma'S Jelly Donuts"("Depression Days") - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    8 to 10 slices white or whole wheat day old bread
    2 to 3 Tbsp. your favorite jam or jelly
    salad oil or shortening
    confectioners sugar
Preparation
    In large bowl, combine eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar and salt. Mix until well blended.
    In a small bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
    Stir flour into egg mixture until smooth; set aside. Stack 2 slices of bread sandwich style.
    With sharp knife, remove crust from bread.
    Repeat with other breads.
    Spread thin layer of jelly or jam on each bread.
    Cut sandwich into quarters; dip doughnuts into batter.
    Fry in oil or shortening.
    After browned, sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
