Sauerbraten Meatballs - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/3 c. fine bread crumbs
1/2 c. milk
2 Tbsp. butter
1 c. water
2 Tbsp. vinegar
2 Tbsp. catsup
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
6 peppercorns
1 bay leaf, crushed
1/2 tsp. salt
6 gingersnaps, crushed
1/2 c. raisins (optional)
Preparation

Combine beef, egg, salt, pepper, bread crumbs and milk.
Shape into tiny meatballs.
Brown in butter, shaking pan occasionally to brown evenly.
Mix water, vinegar, catsup, brown sugar, peppercorns, bay leaf, salt, raisins and gingersnap crumbs.
When meat is browned, add sauce mixture.
Bring to a boil.
Cover skillet; lower heat and simmer 25 to 30 minutes.
Stir gently several times while meat is simmering.
Keep hot in a chafing dish and serve with toothpicks.
