Pfeffernuesse - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. shortening, use part butter
    2 c. dark syrup
    2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. white sugar
    3 eggs
    1 c. nuts, chopped
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 3/4 c. buttermilk
    11 c. flour
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 bottle Anise Oil (1 oz.)
Preparation
    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Mix all ingredients together. Refrigerate 1 day.
    Take 1 tsp. of batter and roll into ball (approximately size of walnut).
    Use powdered sugar on hands, if it sticks.
    Place on greased cookie sheet.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 18 minutes.
    Bake until no indentation remains when touched.
    Roll in powdered sugar.
    Will keep for months at room temperature in a glass container.
    They stay nice and soft.
