Old Lady Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1/4 c. butter or other shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg, well beaten
2 c. sifted cake flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk

Preparation

Cream butter and sugar together.
Add egg and beat thoroughly. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, cinnamon and salt together 3 times.
Add dry ingredients and milk alternately to creamed mixture.
Bake in a greased tube pan in a moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 45 to 60 minutes.
Makes one (9-inch) cake.
