Cooked Fudge Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    6 Tbsp. cocoa
    pinch of salt and soda
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. evaporated milk
    1 1/2 sticks butter
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients except butter.
    Cook until firm ball forms when dropped into cold water.
    Remove from heat.
    Add butter. Beat until spreading consistency.
    Frost 3 layers or 1 pound cake.
